MONK SEAL

The Mediterranean monk seal or "Lobo-marinho" (scientific name: Monachus monachus (Hermann , 1779)), as it is known in the Madeira archipelago, is the rarest seal in the world and a species considered endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (2015). In Portugal, it only occurs in the Madeira archipelago.
